Community Engagement Officer
I am passionate about community involvement, especially working towards a greater discussion about HIV so we can dispel the myths and misconceptions. These hinder the ability of HIV+ people to lead a wonderful, authentic life free of stigma and are also a barrier to reducing the rate of new infections.
My role at the New Zealand AIDS Foundation is new and combines a myriad of tasks such as overseeing the distribution of condoms and collateral, and coordinating volunteers for the key events on our calendar. But first and foremost for me is, as the title suggests, all about the wonderfully diverse people in our community and how to best connect with them to work towards a culture of people being able to own their health and be prepared and informed.
I have been involved in the community since moving back to New Zealand from Sydney in 2013 including as a board member for Body Positive and being part of various projects for NZAF. I am one of the faces of their ‘More than HIV’ campaign produced in conjunction with Positive Women Inc.
It is an incredible honour being able to take the next step in my journey of engagement and passion for HIV education.
