Love Life4 Fono a Huge Success

Posted by Mike / Return to our voices

Laughter and tears were shared and beautiful memories created across the four day event that was the Love Life4 Fono, 17-20 November.

The Love Life4 Fono had a strong emphasis on bringing together young people and sexual minority groups most at risk of HIV, including mahu, vakasalewalewa, palopa, fa’afafine, akava’ine, fakaleiti, and fakafifine. Participants were invited from both New Zealand-based Pacific communities and Pacific nations.

Most importantly, the fono provided a safe, inclusive environment to discuss emerging issues around HIV prevention and health equity, and made crucial inroads to increasing knowledge and helping leaders develop the skills needed to be safe sex champions within their communities.

A fantastic turnout this year meant that our Pacific rainbow communities have another strong and passionate group of role models who are empowered and willing to support their friends and whanau, and guide those new to the community.

The four day event was hosted by Get it On!, the NZAF's social marketing and HIV prevention programme.
