Getting tested is a big step, but doesn't have to be overwhelming. The free NZAF FASTest will let you know your HIV status within 20 minutes.

NZAF FASTest services are available to anyone who believes they may have been at risk of infection. The FASTest also includes a test for syphilis and Hepatitis C. The NZAF also offers standard STI testing too - if you have an STI, it may be easier to contract HIV.
FASTest is the quickest way to get tested for HIV, syphilis and Hepatitis C.

Test for HIV, syphilis and Hepatitis C
One painless finger prick is all we need from you, and within 10-20 minutes you will have your HIV, syphilis and Hepatitis C results. Appointments can be booked anytime Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm. We ask you to set aside an hour for the appointment.
The rapid test used by the NZAF is FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved and WHO (World Health Organisation) recommended.
STI testing
The NZAF centres in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in partnership with local sexual health services offer, in addition to its FAStest for HIV, syphilis and Hepatitis C, a full sexual health screening service
The service can be accessed on the following days:
NZAF Burnett Centre, Auckland
NZAF Āwhina Centre, Wellington, every Wednesday, 4pm to 7pm
NZAF South/Te Toka, Christchurch. After extensive damage to our inner-city clinic in the Christchurch earthquake, NZAF South/Te Toka has temporarily moved. Please check here for the new address.
Use the form at the bottom of this page to make an appointment, or alternatively call 0800 80 AIDS (2437).
Home testing kits
The NZAF does not recommend home testing kits. They aren't rigorously assessed and the results aren't always accurate. Plus, testing at home means you:
Come to a clinic - it's safer, much more supportive and healthier way, physically and emotionally, of getting tested.
Confidential vs Anonymous - what's the difference?
Confidential testing: Your details and test results will not be revealed to anybody, except for designated clinic staff and in some cases, specific health professionals.
The clinic will need your name, age and address but they will not be revealed to anybody - clinics are legally bound by patient confidentiality and a strict ethical code.
If your GP or another doctor conducts your test, the results will appear on your medical records. This too is confidential, and nobody can see your medical records without your consent.
Anonymous testing: Where a patient does not have to, or chooses not to, give their name, address or contact details.
The NZAF offers anonymous testing - people being tested are given a unique identifying code. No official records of who is being tested are kept and no identifying details are passed onto third parties.
Patients sometimes give false details, which we do not recommend doing - it creates difficulties if a person tests positive.
One of our staff will be in contact with you by the end of the next working day.
