Our Centres

NZAF Āwhina Centre, Wellington


The NZAF Āwhina Centre is based on Willis Street in central Wellington.  We offer testing and support services through a team of full qualified professionals in the area of HIV, who have over twenty years experience working with individuals, couples, family and whānau. 

STI Clinic

The New Zealand AIDS Foundation (NZAF) has joined with Wellington Sexual Health Services to provide a full sexual health screening service for men at the NZAF Āwhina Centre in Wellington. The weekly Sexual Health Clinics will take place every Wednesday between 4pm and 7pm.  
The screening, which takes place in a specially designated and refitted room in the NZAF Āwhina Centre, is free of charge.  Alongside the full STI test, users of the service can be tested HIV and syphilis FASTest.  Having an STI can make it easier to catch HIV.  The sexual health clinics will compliment the existing tezsting and theraputic services offered by the NZAF Āwhina Centre.

Alongside it's normal HIV and syphilis FASTest service and theraputice services (which can be accessed Monday - Friday, 9am to 5pm), the NZAF has joined with Capital Coast Sexual Health Services to provide a full sexual health screening service for men. The weekly Sexual Health Clinics will take place every Wednesday between 4pm and 7pm.  

The screening, which takes place in a specially designated and refitted room in the NZAF Āwhina Centre, is free of charge and is done by a qualified sexual health nurse.  Alongside the comprehensive Sexually Transmitted Infection screening, users of the service can be tested for HIV and syphilis using the Rapid tests.  Having an STI can make it easier to catch HIV.  The sexual health clinics compliment the existing testing and therapeutic services offered by the NZAF Āwhina Centre.  We ask that you refrain from urinating at least two hours before attending the clinic.

The NZAF Āwhina Centre uses a rapid testing service to anyone who believes they may have been at risk of acquiring HIV or syphilis.

One painless finger prick gives accurate and reliable results in 10 - 20 minutes (although we do ask you take an hour out of your schedule).  The HIV test we use in FDA approved and WHO recommended.
