45 'girls' representing 43 countries and 2 planets all with one mission, to receive the coveted crown. Sounds like a recipe for disaster with that number of drag queens, or is it? QWU premiered in Auckland on Saturday 18 September 2004. The musical parody on a beauty pageant, now in its 6th year, has donated over $145,000 for HIV/AIDS causes in New Zealand whilst entertaining the audiences in what has become a must see annual event on the Auckland event calendar. The basis of the event is a beauty pageant with a difference where most but not all of the cast are boys dressed as girls, all with one mission, to receive the coveted crown.
