NZAF Trust Board member Cherry Sonderer, and NZAF National Partnerships Co‐ordinator Ben Barratt‐Boyes, gratefully accepted a giant cheque for the proceeds of the Get it On! Big Gay Out Beer Garden which came to an unprecedented total of $6,000.00. The Caluzzi and Urge Beer Garden was one of the most popular attractions at this year’s Get it On! Big Gay Out and was organised, hosted and staffed by the fabulous Caluzzi bar staff and girls along with the furry men from Urge.
Granville stated, “We can’t thank all our friends and staff enough for all their help. The day went really smoothly thanks to them. Also want to say huge thanks to the NZAF for all their help. If asked, we will certainly be there again next year.”
Barratt‐Boyes says, “Caluzzi and Urge are incredibly generous. Their team worked for twelve hours without a break on one of the hottest days of summer to make the Beer Garden one of the highlights of the Get it On! Big Gay Out. Campbell, Alan and Paul have donated all of the proceeds of the Beer Garden, in addition to committing their time and support. It’s very humbling to work for a community that has people as generous as Campbell, Alan and Paul and we’re both delighted and amazed at their generosity.”
This is the second year that the Get it On! Big Gay Out Beer Garden has been a joint initiative of Caluzzi and Urge. The $6,000 donation is a dramatic increase on the $3130 profit donated by the bars last year. Barratt‐Boyes says, “this is the largest amount ever raised in the Beer Garden in the eleven years the event has been running. Caluzzi and Urge provided a superbly well‐run service from inside a tent which is a significant achievement in itself. It’s a real tribute to them that that they have virtually doubled their donation.”
The proceeds from the Caluzzi and Urge Beer Garden will benefit the HIV prevention initiatives of the NZAF including next year’s Get it On! Big Gay Out, which will return on 13 February 2011 to Coyle Park, Pt Chevalier.
