The awards are being held at Te Marae at Te Papa on 30 October and promise to be a fabulous evening full of glitz and glamour that recognises outstanding contributions to the takatāpui communities of Aotearoa.
Rachael Le Mesurier, NZAF Executive Director, says, “We’re expecting a great turnout at the National Takatāpui Awards and Hui which will include community leaders, media and the general public. We’re really looking forward to an event that promises to be a wonderful celebration of takatāpui diversity.”
The Hui Takatāpui is the single biggest gathering for takatāpui from across Aotearoa and is being held at Pipitea Marae on 29‐31 October 2010.
An annual event, Hui Takatāpui celebrates and strengthens the diversity of Māori, especially rangatahi (youth). This year, Hui Takatāpui will focus on the health and well‐being of Māori. Its aim is to increase Māori support for HIV prevention and provide leadership and advice on issues for takatāpui.
The Hui, which is organised by the New Zealand AIDS Foundation (NZAF) and supported by a takatāpui komiti, also provides opportunities for takatāpui to network, have fun, play sport and be entertained in a safe and supportive social environment. The Hui is a great opportunity to empower takatāpui, especially rangatahi, who are at the heart of this year’s event.
