HIV testing at Auckland Africa Day 2017
- 📅15 May, 2017
New Zealand AIDS Foundation (NZAF) and Love Cover Protect (LCP) will offer HIV testing at the day long festival in Auckland
The African community is the second largest group affected by HIV in New Zealand. NZAF’s HIV prevention programme LCP works to raise awareness, support, empower and inform people to keep safe and healthy.
Encouraging people to test for HIV is an important aspect of LCP’s and NZAF’s work. The Foundation’s strategy to end all new HIV transmissions places a high importance on early HIV testing in communities most at risk.
By collaborating at significant events such as the Auckland Africa Day 2017, we hope to work together with the African communities in providing culturally appropriate support and services.
“Not knowing if you have HIV or not can be stressful. HIV is most dangerous to people’s health and wellbeing when you don’t know if you have it. It is easy and quick to test at the LCP pop-up testing service at the festival,” says Yehuala Aboye, Community Engagement Coordinator (African), NZAF. “We hope to encourage people from our communities to take this important step for their health.”
