A cadre of organisations is raising the alarm about an increase in gonorrhoea among Auckland’s gay and bisexual men....
I was elected to the Board of the NZAF in November 2010. During the nomination process, I stated my intention to work hard to promote engagement with newer New Zealand communities and to drive the NZAF’s positive health message. I will deliver on that intention.
I have an enduring commitment to contribute to a strong and talented organisation which brings about positive change in the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS, but also to advocate for education, understanding and adherence to safe sex and positive health.
I was born and raised in Wellington and attended Victoria University where I studied law, politics, education and philosophy. I have two amazing parents who demonstrate to me every day the value of compassion, of committing to something good, and of making a contribution to society. I work with integrity and transparency, both of which are my guiding principles.
I spent five years living in New York developing collaborative sector-approaches to improve education outcomes for young people in challenging circumstances. I believe that children should never be disadvantaged by their parents’ choices, but that neither should their parents be punished for them. Rather, we deal with what we have and we make better choices for ourselves and each other with access to education, support and understanding.
As part of the NZAF, we are all empowered to ensure that everyone has access to quality education, compassionate support and informed understanding to make positive choices for ourselves, our friends and our communities. This is something we should not take for granted, but rather seek to improve as best we can.
It is my intention to work with the Trustees, the NZAF, our members and partners to bring about a shared vision and clear pathway for preventing the incidence of contracting HIV/AIDS and to enshrine the message of safe sex. I will work hard to ensure the Foundation’s members see genuine and tangible benefits from my contribution, and will be transparent about and accountable for my actions as a Trustee.
Whaia te iti kahuranga ki te tuahu koe me he maunga teitei.
