Alastair joined the NZAF Board as an elected member in November 2008. He was re-elected in November 2010 and is currently the Board Chairperson, holding that position since November 2009.

Alastair believes strongly in the role of the NZAF, and stood for election to the Board to support its work and the communities affected by HIV and AIDS. He also responded to a request from the Board for nominees with legal experience.

Alastair is a Senior Associate at the law firm Buddle Findlay. As a member of the firm's public law team, Alastair advises both public and private sector clients on a range of matters concerning government processes and decision-making.

Immediately prior to joining Buddle Findlay, Alastair completed his Master of Laws (LLM) at New York University (having been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in the USA). This followed three years working as an Advisor to the Minister for the Environment, Hon Marian Hobbs.

Alastair lives and works in Wellington, where he has long-standing involvement with the gay community.
