Since completing his PhD in sociology in 2005 on the subject of youth representation and moral panics, Richard has worked in market research and as a researcher in the tertiary sector.

In addition to conducting team-based research and evaluation with a primary youth focus for clients such as Durex, the Health Sponsorship Council, Waitakere City Council, and Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC), Richard also has experience in public health and epidemiology research in the areas of drug and alcohol consumption and gay men’s sexual health and behaviour.

He has presented at conferences in the United States, England, Australia and Denmark and published articles on the youth subculture, alcohol marketing, new media and popular culture.
