I work as a counsellor at NZAF South/te Toka Monday to Thursday. My association with HIV work began in the mid-eighties as part of the volunteer AIDS Support Network and I was drawn back to work professionally in the field as a way of honouring friends who have been affected by HIV or died from AIDS.

I am a former high school teacher, with Masters Degrees in both Arts and in Education with a specific counselling focus. I am also a member of the NZ Association of Counsellors. I have travelled extensively, take a keen interest in the creative and performing arts and balance this with walking, cycling and general fitness.

As a counsellor I take a specialist interest in mindfulness, evolutionary psychology and research into the neuro-science of the brain. For me the most important ingredient in counselling is developing a trusting relationship and self-awareness through confidentiality and being non-judgemental. While I draw on various modalities of counselling, my prime approach is solution-focussed, which is goal-centred and forward-looking. I am most interested in clarifying where you want to go and how you can get there.
